Stephen R. Andrew LCSW, LADC, CCS, CGP is a storyteller, consultant, trainer, co-author of Game Plan: A Man’s Guide to Achieving Emotional Fitness, and Chief Energizing Officer of Health Education & Training Institute. He maintains a compassion-focused private practice in Portland, Maine (USA) where he also facilitates a variety of men’s, co-ed, couples, and caregiver groups. Stephen has been a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) since 2003 as well as a MIA-STEP (Motivational Interviewing Assessment; Supervisor Tools for Enhancing Proficiency) trainer for the New England ATTC. Stephen has been MITI trained and has over 100 hours of training in Motivational Interviewing. He provides coaching and training domestically and internationally (Singapore, China, Iceland, Holland, Sweden, Poland, Turkey, & UK) for social service agencies, health care providers, substance abuse counselors, criminal justice, and other groups on Motivational Interviewing, addiction, co-occurring disorders, counseling theory, “challenging” adolescents, supervision, ethics for caring services professionals, men’s work, and the power of group work. Stephen also oversees our MITI Coding and coaching lab.
Leslie Bradford, MD
Gynecologic Oncology Specialist
Maine Medical Partners Women's Health Division of Gynecologic Oncology
Leslie Bradford, MD, is a gynecologic oncologist who practices at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. She attended medical school at the University of Vermont followed by a residency in Ob/Gyn at the University of Wisconsin. She completed her fellowship training in gynecologic oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital. After practicing at the University of Massachusetts for several years, she returned to her home state of Maine to join the faculty at Maine Medical Center. She has an interest in minimally invasive oncologic surgery as well as cancer survivorship and cancer prevention, and as such is actively involved with the state of Maine's Obesity and Cancer Task Force.
Sara Huston, PhD
Lead Chronic Disease Epidemiologist
Maine CDC
Dr. Huston has more than 20 years of experience in applied public health epidemiology and surveillance working in state health departments. Chronic disease epidemiology and surveillance are her specific areas of expertise. Dr. Huston began her career in applied epidemiology as a U.S. CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer assigned to the North Carolina Division of Public Health from 1995 to 1997. During the next 13 years, she served as the Cardiovascular Epidemiologist for the N.C. Division of Public Health and on the faculty of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. Dr. Huston joined the faculty at the University of Southern Maine in 2010 and, through a contract with the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC), she serves as the Lead Chronic Disease Epidemiologist for the Maine CDC, co-leading a team of epidemiologists who work in programs covering asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, physical activity, nutrition, obesity, and tobacco. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Preventing Chronic Disease and is active in the Chronic Disease, Maternal & Child Health, and Oral Health Committee of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists.
Jennifer Ligibel, MD
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute - Attending Physician, Adult Oncology
Associate Professor, Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Dr. Ligibel received her MD from Washington University in St. Louis. Later she completed a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a medical oncology fellowship at DFCI. In 2001, she joined the Women's Cancer Program at DFCI and is currently an instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Justin Brown, PhD
Director, Cancer Metabolism Program
LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Justin Brown is Director of the Cancer Metabolism Program at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The mission of the Cancer Metabolism Program is to identify the biological and biobehavioral mechanisms through which states of energy balance influence cancer prevention and control. Dr. Brown’s has served as Principal Investigator of three National Cancer Institute sponsored clinical studies investigating the role of lifestyle modification in cancer survivors. Dr. Brown has published over 75 peer-reviewed papers in leading scientific journals, such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, JAMA Oncology, and the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. In May 2017, he received the Inaugural National Institutes of Health, Office of Disease Prevention, Early-Stage Investigator Award, which recognized him as the #1 early-stage disease prevention scientist in the United States.

Colleen Doyle, MS, RD
Healthy Eating and Active Living Consultant
Colleen Doyle is a Registered Dietitian who has worked in the health promotion field for over 20 years. As the former Managing Director of Healthy Eating and Active Living for the American Cancer Society, she has been instrumental in developing strategies to increase awareness of the importance of diet and exercise for chronic disease prevention and management, and to create changes in schools, worksites and communities that can help improve healthy lifestyles.

Colleen has extensive media and public speaking experience. She has appeared on national broadcasts, including CNN, Headline News, Discovery Health and the Do It Yourself Network, as well as numerous local news and cable television and radio shows on a regular basis. She is frequently quoted in nationwide publications including USA Today, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times. She also been quoted in a variety of consumer magazines, including Better Homes and Gardens, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Child, Parents, Self, Fitness and others. Colleen is a co-author of The American Cancer Society’s Great American Eat Right Cookbook, and has contributed to a variety of other books, including The American Cancer Society’s Healthy Eating Cookbook, Kids First Cookbook, Celebrate! Healthy Entertaining for Any Occasion, Good For You! Reducing Your Risk of Developing Cancer, Eating Well, Staying Well During and After Cancer, What to Eat During Cancer Treatment, and Energy Balance and Cancer. She is a frequent presenter at both scientific and consumer meetings, and has authored numerous scientific and consumer articles on nutrition and physical activity.

Colleen has a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition from Miami University and a Masters of Science degree in Human Nutrition, with a minor in Exercise Science, from The Ohio State University. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and its Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition, Weight Management, and Oncology Nutrition practice groups, as well as the American College of Sports Medicine.

Friedman School of Nutrition
Fang Fang Zhang is a cancer epidemiologist with experience in conducting population-based studies to investigate the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and control. Dr. Zhang received her PhD with distinction in Epidemiology from Columbia University. She directs the course on epidemiology methods for graduate students at Friedman School and School of Medicine and is a recipient of the Eileen O'Neil Citation for Excellence in Teaching. She is also the inaugural recipient of the Miriam E. Nelson Tisch Faculty Fellow from Tufts University.

Kristen Miale is the President of Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine’s largest hunger relief organization. Prior to her work with food security, Kristen worked for over a decade in the private equity and business consulting fields. After volunteering for hunger relief organizations, she decided to make her passion for ending hunger her occupation. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and her Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University, where she studied both entrepreneurship and nonprofit management.

Courtney Kennedy is the Nutrition and Education Manager for Good Shepherd Food Bank (GSFB) and Program Manager for Cooking Matters Maine, a food skills and nutrition education program for low-income families. Courtney has worked in education and nutrition roles in the public education sector prior to her work with GSFB. In her tenure at GSFB, Courtney created and implemented a robust nutrition policy that guides the work of the organization. Courtney holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and Allied Health Professions with a concentration in Dietetics from University of Dayton and a Masters in Adult Education from University of Southern Maine. In her free time Courtney enjoys running, baking, gardening, and playing with her Newfie, Maggie Mae.

Maureen Higgins, MSW
Cancer Health Outreach Educator

Maureen has 30 years of experience working with oncology patients and families in a variety of settings, providing oncology social work services both in-patient and out-patient, as a patient services manager delivering provider and patient education presentations and resource connection, and as a group facilitator. She joined the Dempsey Center in 2009 and developed their cancer health outreach program focusing on educating groups in the community about cancer prevention, risk reduction and early detection. Currently, Maureen works to develop relationships within the healthcare community and collaborative partners throughout the state to ensure that people impacted by cancer are aware of and can access services and programs provided to support them throughout their journey.
